Meditation is about seeing clearly the body that we have, the mind that we have, the domestic situation that we have, the job that we have, and the people who are in our lives. It’s about seeing how we react to all these things. It’s seeing our emotions and thoughts just as they are right now, in this very moment, in this very room, on this very seat. It’s about not trying to make them go away, not trying to become better than we are, but just seeing clearly with precision and gentleness.
So resolve yourselves. It’s not just by sitting with your eyes closed that you develop wisdom. Eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind are constantly with us, so be constantly alert. Study constantly. Seeing trees or animals can all be occasions for study. Bring it all inwards. See clearly within your own heart. If some sensation makes impact on the heart, witness it clearly for yourself, don’t simply disregard it.

I have a broken foot and can’t go to work now. My apartment underwent extreme cleaning that knocked my Internet out so I’ve been without it since Monday. I also can’t take my summer course because the class is too intensive (most people don’t finish in the summer and get incompletes…they come back in the fall). Seeing as I don’t regularly attend that school, it’s a no go. As much bs that has happened and is happening this summer, I just can’t let it get me down. I’m trying to appreciate life more these days. Taking the good with the not so good. :)
